In this Post , We are learning Which Organizations manager Internet and related services for better communication and IT infrastructure. It’s also called RIR ( Regional Internet Registries )

RIR Organizations responsible for the allocation and management of IP address resources (IPv4 & IPv6) within specific geographic regions. They are responsible for assigning blocks of IP addresses to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Companies, and other enterprises for proper usage.

RIRs distribute large blocks of IP addresses to Local Internet Registries (LIRs), such as ISPs, and to large organizations that need their own IP address spaces.

RIRs maintain a public database ( whois Database ) that provides information about IP address allocations, helping to prevent conflicts and ensure transparency.

There are 5 Main RIRs on the Internet.

  1. ARIN ( American Registery for Internet Numbers )
    • It Serves North America , United States of America and Canada and some around geographical area.
  2. RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre)
    • It serves Europe , Middle East and Part of Central Asia.
  3. APNIC (Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre)
    • It serves the Whole Asia and nearby islands.
  4. LACNIC (Latin American and Caribbean Network Information Centre)
    • It Serves Latin America and Caribbean.
  5. AFRINIC (African Network Information Centre)
    • It serves Whole Africa.

These 5 Organizations Manage IP Address in their Geographical Area.

Actual How the Working ? Let’s Understand ,

Suppose My company wants to take public IP , So company request to ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) ex. Airtel . So Airtel takes IP Address from APNIC and Give us because our Company is located in India and India in the Asia means Our ISP takes Public IP Address from the APNIC .

So Now We understand How the Domain System Maintaine.

Domain : It is the Human readable name. Websites are work on the IP and Remembering All websites IP is difficult so Internet RIRs develop Domain Name System. In which You enter Domain and DNS Server converts Domain to IP.

How I Purchase Domain ?

First , We are going to Domain Registrars like GoDaddy , Namecheap , Hostinger etc. Domain Registrars have rights to sell Domains.

Second , We select Domain from Domain Registrars ( Namecheap ) , Register the Domain and Paying the Money. and Then Domain is Ours.

It’s Look easy. but not easy.

When We Register Domain from Domain Registrars ,

Domain Registrars submits the domain registration request to the Registry (which holds the official records of domain ownership).

Domain Registries :

The organizations that manage the database of domain names for specific top-level domains (TLDs). For example, Verisign manages the .com registry.

For all TLDs , Different Registries. Suppose .in domains have it’s own Registries , .com domain has own registries.

Suppose I register Domain arpan.tech , It means Domain Registrars send the request to .tech registries. In this registries , My domain is listed after then My Domain Registrars Complete Domain Process.

Who Manage Domain Registries ?

Domain Registries are managed and operated by Registry operators. These organizations are responsible for maintaining the databases of domain names for specific top-level domains (TLDs), such as .com, .org, and country-code TLDs like .uk or .de.

Example of Domain Registry Operators.

  • Verisign manages the .com and .net TLDs.
  • Afilias operates the .org TLD.
  • Nominet manages the .uk TLD.

Domain Purchasing System Process :

  1. Registry Operators manage the TLDs and the databases of domain names, ensuring that each domain name is unique and resolving correctly.
  2. Registrars act as Intermediate between customers and the registries, selling domain names and handling registration requests.
  3. ICANN check the entire process, ensuring global consistency, security.

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) :

ICANN is the primary governing body responsible for overseeing the entire domain name system.

So in this Blog, We covered How Domain System Organizations and IP Organizations Works.
